How to Learn About Beauty

Hi My Beauty Buddies,

It's June already! Have you accomplished any of your new year resolutions yet? If not, let's start doing something about it.
Perhaps you’re a creative individual who enjoys handling makeup and love to do styling. You may want to give some serious thought to learning more about beauty. By becoming a cosmetologist, you’ll be able to apply your knowledge and skills in an area that interests you the most. This could involve business, fashion, hair styling, makeup, personal fitness, skincare or any other area that focuses on beauty. Below are some options you may wish to explore in your quest to learn more about beauty.

1.   Cosmetology School

To become a professional beauty consultant requires some formal training. There are plenty of good cosmetology schools that offer various programs for individuals seeking to build a career in beauty. Fortunately, a lot of funding is available for students enrolled in beauty programs. Various organizations offer cosmetology scholarships to students to help them meet their educational expenses. Scholarships usually have eligibility criteria which applicants must fulfill in order to apply for an award. Besides scholarships, many schools also offer different forms of financial aid. By visiting your school financial aid office, you should be able to find out what options you qualify for. The American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS) offers scholarships and grants to students enrolled in schools that are members of the association. Securing funding helps to ease the financial strain typically associated with postsecondary education.

Why Pursue a Beauty Education?
Investing in a beauty education is one of the best decisions you can make if you’re serious about a career in beauty. Attending cosmetology school gives you the opportunity to build the knowledge and competencies required for various careers in beauty. You may want to consider becoming a beauty, fashion or image consultant. Perhaps you have an interest in entrepreneurship. Career opportunities for the business-minded with a focus on beauty include beauty salon proprietor, beauty supply store owner or beauty spa proprietor. Other professional careers that are possible with a degree from a cosmetology school include:
  • Beauty magazine columnist
  • Beauty product designer
  • Cosmetologist
  • Esthetician
  • Fashion show stylist
  • Hairstylist
  • Makeup artist
  • Manufacturer sales representative
  • Nail care artist
  • Nail technician
  • Research chemist
  • School instructor

2.   Magazines

One of the best ways to learn about beauty is by reading magazines. The market is awash with various magazines for beauty enthusiasts. Themes include fashion, hair, makeup and skincare. You’re sure to find magazines that focus on your interest. The great thing about magazines is that they serve as a great reference, even after you’re done with them. Reading beauty magazines is also fun and entertaining. This makes magazines one of the greatest resources for those who wish to learn more about beauty.

3.   Online Resources

The internet has rapidly established itself as one of the world’s greatest learning resources. It is now possible to get a college education or attain professional credentials through online learning. You can also turn to the internet for diverse information on beauty matters. Numerous sites offer various resources, including lessons, to help individuals with a keen interest in beauty learn more about the field. Internet resources tend to be regularly updated, which makes them an excellent source for both current and past information on beauty themes.

4.   Videos

Another great way to learn about beauty is by watching videos. Various beauty themes are covered in videos, which lets you educate yourself on aspects of beauty that interest you the most. The great thing about videos is that they usually contain demonstrations, which helps to make learning more effective. Watching videos allows you to build your knowledge base and develop your skills on specific beauty themes.

How To: Recipe of Home Made Yogurt without fancy equipment

Hi My Beauty Buddies

As promised, I will share with you my home made yogurt recipe that is easy as ABC. You do not need any gadget. You only need a glass bottle with cover and a dry cloth.

Please make sure the bottle is clean (you can rinse with hot water)

My serving suggestion

You need a bottle like this

The yogurt is formed / done!

Ingredients
300ml of warm water (use 150ml hot water and mix with 150ml room temperature water)
8 table spoon (heaps) of milk powder (you can use low fat or full cream milk powder)
1.5 table spoon of plain yogurt (I use Marigold brand)

Steps
Scoop the milk powder into the warm water in a bottle
Stir well
Add in the plain yogurt (as the starter)
Stir again until everything is smooth
Cover the bottle with the lid and wrap with a dry cloth
Put at room temperature for 8 to 10 hours
The yogurt will form faster during a sunny day compared to a rainy day
I normally make my yogurt at 9pm and by 6am it will be ready as shown in the picture.

I have also prepared the recipe measurement for other volume
430ml of water - 11 tbs milk powder & 2 tbs plain yogurt (base)
225ml of water - 6 tbs milk powder & 1 tbs plain yogurt

Tip
I eat my yogurt with orange and strawberries or mango. You can add some honey or raisins or prunes etc.
You can eat with any fruit you like but eating it with rambutan is very nice too. I have tried that and I love rambutan yogurt. You cannot find it anywhere.

You can use yogurt as a facial mask, just leave on your face for 10mins and rinse well.
You can use yogurt as a salad dressing. See the recipe here.

Other Info
1. The yogurt must be kept in the fridge when it is formed.
2. Typically, the yogurt stays fresh for about 10 days. Make sure you use a dry spoon to scoop the yogurt.
3. If you notice a thick transparent liquid after you kept the yogurt for 3-4 days in the fridge, fret not - it is whey protein that is good for burning our body fat and as a result you can be slimmer

So, I hope you can try this out and let me know the result. Stay healthy and come back for my next post.

My UDPP Operation

Dear Readers

Some of you may know how I love my Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion (UDPP). I have reviewed it here. I used it each time before I apply my eye shadow to make sure that the color stays intact the whole day even after my exercise.

I used my UDPP since April 2010. It was a 16.3 ml tube. Recently, I could hardly get any product from the tube and so I decided to conduct a "surgery" on the tube to see whether I can escavate any products from it.

To my surprise, I managed to dig out 7ml of products from the tube! I used a Clinique 7ml container to store the product and there are still some remainder in another container. 7ml is actually slightly less than half of the products in the original tube. What a waste if I actually threw it away. Thankfully, I did the "surgery".

So, if you have a UDPP tube that you don't seemed to be able to get any product from using the wand, I suggest that you try this out. The tube is actually very hard but the bottom part is thinner. I saw a small crack and used my scissors to cut it open. It is quite an exciting operation.

so much products inside!

7ml of products and some remainder

Totally cleaned up!

Now, I use a flat brush to pick up the product and apply it on my eyelid. This method is working fine for me. Sometimes I used my finger to even out the product on my eyelid.

Have anyone of you tried this operation before? Do share.
Happy reading!

Cosmetics Spring Cleaning: Throwing Your Money Down the Drain?

Dear Readers

Happy Sunday!

I am not trying to dampen your Christmas shopping. I thought it would be good to remind you to take a stock check of the cosmetics items that may be expired and still sitting in your pile of collections.

These are the products that I need to throw away. Waste of money right? As you can see, some of the products have so much left. This is what I call throwing money down the drain.

Only one lipstick is used up

All are barely used except one color (with a dent)

I have been wanting to write this post for quite some time. Today, I will share with you how I monitor my cosmetics items.

Most cosmetics labelled their Manufacturing Date on the product packaging. So, what I'll do is to stick a transparent cellophane tape on top of the date. This is to prevent the label from fading.

If the Manufacturing Date is printed on the outer plastic wrapper (i.e. when you open the plastic wrapper, you will also throw away the information). In this case, before throwing the wrapper I will write down the date on a small sticker and stick on the body of the product. I will also put a cellophane tape on top of the sticker to prevent it from fading.

As a general rule, we are supposed to throw away our skin care / cosmetics after a certain date:

1. Mascara - 3 months (but I'll keep mine for 9 months coz I seldom use it)
2. Lipstick & foundation - 1 year (but I keep mine for 2 years)
3. Face Powder & Eyeshadow - 2 years (but I keep my eyeshadow for 3 years)
4.  Moisturiser & Sunblock - if they start separating from the oil (these products seldom go into the bin as I can finish them on time)

What about you, do you follow the general rule or have your own rule? Pls share for the benefit of others.

Have a lovely week and thanks for sharing.

How To Make Your Own Garbage Enzyme

I have been making this garbage / environmental enzyme since 2 years ago.

This enzyme has rescued a stray dog with almost no fur to a body full of healthy fur.
Note: I do not have the picture to show you but the dog is under the good care of my sister-in law's family members.

Dr Rosukon from Thailand is the founder of this garbage enzyme. Why the word garbage? Because we are using fruit skin that we usually throw away, right?
Dr Rosukon has done extensive research on this enzyme for over 30 years.

There are so many uses of this garbage enzyme.

Some of the uses:
1. vege wash (add 30ml to 1 litre of water)
2. fabric softener
3. mopping floor
4. watering plant
5. heal skin diseases (for both human and animal) - There was a newspaper article of a diabetic man with gangrene legs. After soaking his legs daily in this enzyme for several months, he was completely heal of the gangrene, even the doctor was surprise)
6. washing hair / bathing (add to your shampoo/shower gel ratio of 1:1)
7. Natural Air purifier
8. Natural Pesticides
9. Anti bacterial and virus
10. Prevent drain pipe blocking

Ingredients:
1. 5 litres of tap water
2. 1.5 kg of fruit skin (preferably citrus fruits' skin. Try not to use banana or papaya skin because they stink)
3. 0.5kg of brown sugar
Duration: minimum 3 months (garbage enzyme is at its best after 6 months of fermentation. The longer it takes, the better it gets. Garbage enzyme will NEVER expire!)

Keep in a cool dry and well ventilated place. Do not cover the lid tightly. The fermentation process will release O3 which can reduce CO2. By making this enzyme, you are helping to reduce greenhouse and global warming effects.

After 1.5 months

Sieve the liquid after 3 months and keep in a container. Wait for it to settle and sieve again. Repeat this process until you get a clear brown liquid.

Has anyone heard of this garbage enzyme?

Lets go green!

How To Make Sure your Eye Shadow is 100% Removed

Today I will be sharing a useful tip to ensure that there is no eye shadow residue on your eye areas.

I have tried this method on many types of eye makeup remover and can still find some residue.

The eye makeup remover that I have tried are as follows:
1. Shu Uemura Cleanising oil
2. Elianto Green Tea eye make up remover
3. Clinique
4. Shiseido Cleansing oil
5. Skin Food Milk Shake eye make up remover
6. Estee Lauder Cleansing milk
7. ROC Cleansing Milk
8. Simple Cleansing Milk

This does not mean that the products above are not good. It is because when we use cotton pad, the small areas cannot be reached. Therefore, I recommend that you try the method below and let me know your feedback. I have been using this method for many years.

The steps that I follow to clean my eye areas:

1. use an eye makeup remover
2. wash with cleansing gel

Step 3. Pat dry your eye area. Use a cotton bud to pick up some eye cream (choose an eye cream that is not too expensive. I use this Skin Food Eye cream because it is not too expensive)

Step 4: sweep the cotton bud at the waterline area and eye lash area, repeat 2 times

Check your cotton bud and you can see that there are some residue that remains. Now, you can be sure that your eye area is 100% clean.

Next, apply your eye cream/eye gel. It can be the same eye cream or a different one.

I wonder how many of you have tried this method before?

Would you try this and let me know whether you find any residue?
Thanks for sharing.
