EOTD: A simple everyday look

Dear Readers

Just want to share with you a simple everyday look.
Sorry, I did not capture the items used.

Basically you need 3 colours.
1. Beige - a color closest to your skin tone (I use a non shimmer color - as a highlighter under my brow bone)
2. a light shimmery color for the lid area
3. a brownish black color- for the outer lid area (for definition)

So, here is the look.

Thanks for visiting.

Have a good week ahead!

Cosmetics Spring Cleaning: Throwing Your Money Down the Drain?

Dear Readers

Happy Sunday!

I am not trying to dampen your Christmas shopping. I thought it would be good to remind you to take a stock check of the cosmetics items that may be expired and still sitting in your pile of collections.

These are the products that I need to throw away. Waste of money right? As you can see, some of the products have so much left. This is what I call throwing money down the drain.

Only one lipstick is used up

All are barely used except one color (with a dent)

I have been wanting to write this post for quite some time. Today, I will share with you how I monitor my cosmetics items.

Most cosmetics labelled their Manufacturing Date on the product packaging. So, what I'll do is to stick a transparent cellophane tape on top of the date. This is to prevent the label from fading.

If the Manufacturing Date is printed on the outer plastic wrapper (i.e. when you open the plastic wrapper, you will also throw away the information). In this case, before throwing the wrapper I will write down the date on a small sticker and stick on the body of the product. I will also put a cellophane tape on top of the sticker to prevent it from fading.

As a general rule, we are supposed to throw away our skin care / cosmetics after a certain date:

1. Mascara - 3 months (but I'll keep mine for 9 months coz I seldom use it)
2. Lipstick & foundation - 1 year (but I keep mine for 2 years)
3. Face Powder & Eyeshadow - 2 years (but I keep my eyeshadow for 3 years)
4.  Moisturiser & Sunblock - if they start separating from the oil (these products seldom go into the bin as I can finish them on time)

What about you, do you follow the general rule or have your own rule? Pls share for the benefit of others.

Have a lovely week and thanks for sharing.

Product Review: Empro Eye & Lip Makeup Remover

Dear Readers,

How was your weekened? Busy with your Christmas shopping? Time flies and Christmas is just around the corner.

I have tried out the Empro Perfect Eye & Lip Makeup remover and will report to you today.

Empro Makeup remover is colourless, non-greasy and lightweight. It contains Vitamin E and Hyaluronic Acid.

I like the packaging of this product. You only need to use your cotton pad and press down the dispenser to get the product.

Price RM39.80 for 150ml

Apart from the product packaging, I think that this product did not live up to my expectation.
Even though I used 2 pumps of the product, it is quite difficult to thoroughly remove my eyeliner and water proof mascara.

Therefore, my rating for this product is a mere 2/5.

At RM39.80 for 150ml, I expect this product to perform better than other cheaper brands. On a positive side, i find that this product is very gentle to the skin. So, for those who don't use eyeliner or mascara, you might love this product. It is able to remove all traces of eye shadow.

I find that generally oil base makeup remover performs better than waterbase makeup remover.

Have you tried this yet? Do share your favorite makeup remover.

Till then, have a lovely week!

Product Review: Biore UV Perfect Face Milk SPF 50 PA+++ is my Holy Grail Sunblock

If you read my blog frequent enough, you would know that I have very oily skin and am very afraid to put any stuff that are oil based or have shinny texture.

I am on a continuous search for sunblocks that are good for oily skin and friendly to the pockets.
And I am pleased to announce to you that I have found one and I am using the 2nd bottle now. Sorry for not sharing earlier. As the saying goes, save the best for last.

If you are curious on what are my other sunblock which I have reviewed earlier, you could read it just for your knowledge.

This Biore sunblock with SPF50 PA+++ has been my daily sunblock for the past few months and I would urge you to try it out. A beauty blogger shared this with me when I wrote a review on another sunblock. Thank you my dear.

Let's see the product.

Why I love this product?
1. It has a runny texture
2. It leaves a matte finish on my face
3. My face stays matte for more than 4 hrs without blotting even on a hot sunny day
4. It doubles as a primer, so you can save on face primer
5. The active Ingredient is Zinc Oxide - this is a true blue sunblock (not a sunscreen)

Although this product has some alcohol smell when you apply, the smell goes away in a few seconds.

NOTE: I am not able to comment on whether this product is suitable for dry skin.

My rating for this Product is 5/5.
The price is RM24.90 for 30ml. Very affordable indeed.

I bought mine from Caring Pharmacy but I have seen this product in some hypermarkets as well.
I always have the misconception that cheaper products are not as good as expensive ones.
Well, Biore Sunblock has proved me wrong and I am glad.

Has anyone tried this? Please share your views.

Update - 1st May 2013
I am still using this sunblock. It's my 5th or 6th bottles , I lost count. that's how good the product is. I seldom repeat my purchase.

Have a lovely day!

It has been quite sometime since I did a review.

I have tried out the Empro Doll Lash Curler and below are some pictures to show you how the wand performs.

Before curling lashes

After curling lashes

side view

I did not apply any mascara in all the pictures. My lashes are curled up in my "after" photo.

At RM19.80, I think you should give it a try.

What I like about this product:
1. easy to use, the padding of the curler is thicker than the normal ones
2. It is affordable

Note: This product is provided by Empro for review purposes.

Have a lovely day!

Coach Fragrance - Take a Sniff

When I see the word COACH, only handbags come into my mind. Some of you may know that Coach has recently launched its signature fragrance in Oct 2010.

I took a sniff of the new EDT and fell in love with the floral scent instantly. I love the design of the bottle too! However, I still have several bottles of unopened fragrance. So, will not be buying it anytime soon. If you are thinking of trying out a new fragrance to usher in the new year, perhaps you should check this out.

Product Description (obtained from Aramis & Designer Fragrances)
The first fragrance from Coach embodies the many personalities of the Coach woman…timeless, chic and sophisticated.

The scent is classically inspired with a unique blend of soft florals. The topnote sparkles with tart green mandarin, guava, lush violet petals and giant waterlily. Its complex scent melds honey, orange flower, mimosa and a touch of jasmine. To further enhance the floral signature, the drydown adds a luxurious finish with smooth and supple sandalwood and amber-wood. The result is a beautifully blended fragrance that represents modern beauty, elegance and charm.

The fragrance bottle is truly unique, featuring Coach’s signature design and lozenge.

Product Review: Estee Lauder Pure Color Eye Shadow and Lip Gloss

Dear friends

Today I will be reviewing Estee Lauder Pure Color Eye Shadow and lip gloss that I received during the recent product launch in Oct 2010. I will be showing you the swatches and also 2 EOTDs (Eye of the Day).

Purple Passion - Satin Finish (has a slight shimmer)

Lavish Mink - Matte finish (This color is super pigmented, you just need to touch it lightly)

Look at the lovely casing. This casing is designed in such a way that even if you accidentally dropped it, the eye shadow will not crack. This was demonstrated to us during the launch.

Left: Lavish Mink - This is a Brownish Black color. The texture is matte and super pigmented / Right: Purple Passion has a satin finish with a very slight glitter

The lip gloss is called Simply Pink Shine No 35
The following are the EOTDs.
First one, using Purple Passion to create a purplish look (obviously)

Second one, using Lavish Mink to create a brown look

What do I like about Pure Color Gloss?
1. Non sticky
2. Pigmented - can be worn alone without lipstick
3. Hydrating
Price: RM75

What do I like about Pure Color Eye Shadow?
1. Very Pigmented ( The Matte finish is more pigmented than the Satin Finish)
2. Easy to work on i.e. color can be built up, layer by layer
3. the casing is cute
Price: RM70 each
Hope you like my EOTDs.

Product Review: Collistar Thermoactive Talasso Body Scrub (for slimming)

Dear Friends,

Thanks for visiting my blog. Sorry for the lack of posts lately. November has been a busy month. December will be the same as well. My weekends from now till December is fully booked.

Today I will be reviewing the Collistar Thermoactive Talasso Scrub. This deluxe sample size (150g) is provided by SaSa Malaysia for the purpose of product review.

Lets look at the product texture

The Ingredients: Lavandula Angustifolia is Lavender essential oil's scientific name while Rosmarinus Officinalis is Rosemary
The moment I opened the bottle, I can recognize that this product contains Lavender and Rosemary essential oil. So, I read the ingredients list and true enough, stated there are Lavandula Angustifolia (i.e. Lavender essential oil's scientific name) and Rosmarinus Officinalis (i.e. Rosemary). As I am a user of essential oil, I am really happy to see both ingredients in this scrub.
However, on the down side I also spotted SLS - Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in the ingredients list.

Product Description on the pack:

Product Information (obtained from http://www.collistar.com/index.asp)

Thermoactive Talasso-Scrub
reshaping exfoliating salts with phytoextracts and essential oils
A special heat-effect thalasso treatment designed to exfoliate and reshape the body.
Exfoliating action - Sea salts leave the skin instantly smoother, brighter and more toned.
Remodelling effectiveness - Six different plant extracts with strong lipolitic proper ties act in synergy to reduce accumulations of fat. Their effectiveness is boosted by the heat effect, which stimulates the skin microcirculation and helps the active principles to penetrate, and by the draining action performed by osmosis by the sea salts.
Revitalizing power - Lavender and rosemary essential oils revive the skin and give energy and wellbeing to the organism.

My Review
The scrub uses the principle of stimulating our skin's microcirculation to create the heat effect similar to a slim-wrap effect.

Main Ingredients: 90 types of sea salt, glycerine, green tea, ivy, fig shoots, essential oil of Rosmary and Lavender.

How to use this body scrub?
Mix the product with a spatula, massage it over the DRY body and rinse off under the shower.
Must be used on DRY SKIN. Please do not use on the bust area (This is being reminded by the SaSa sales lady)
For best results, use once or twice a week.

My Experience Using this Product:
What I like about this product is of course the smell of Lavender and Rosemary essential oil. The aromatherapy scent awakens my senses and I feel like I am enjoying a spa except there is no spa lady to attend to me.
After scrubbing my body for about 3-5 mins, the salt becomes a bit wet and I feel a slight warming sensation on my skin. I only concentrate on areas with fat deposits (I think you know where). Thereafter, I shower off the salt and wash my body with my body wash.
The result: My skin feels super smooth like a baby's skin.

This product is available at all SASA outlets. It retails at RM145 for 700g.

My Rating:
Product texture: 4/5
Product scent: 5/5 (The product contains essential oil)
I can't comment on whether this product can effectively reduce body fat as I only used it for 3 times.
If this product can work, I don't mind buying it as it is not expensive as compared to the slimming therapies that cost a few thousands.
However, knowing myself I doubt that I will be very diligent in using it because scrubbing is hard work.
But wait.....I got an idea, you can bring it to your massage lady to do it for you. How about that? I will leave you with this wild suggestion.

Stay tune my beauty friends and share your thoughts in my comment box ya... Thanks for visiting.
